Digital Advertising is using the most popular platforms, and purchasing spots on those platforms.  The platforms can include:  
  • Facebook
  • Google
  • YouTube
  • Instagram
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn
  • Pinterest
  • TikTok

Those are just some of the most popular platforms where our customers are spending most of their time.  These are great opportunities to get in front of those potential buyers, share your message, and generate a new customer.  However, it isn't always that simple. 

Where Can I Run Digital Ads?

There are four basic areas you can run digital advertising:
  1. Search Engine Advertising:  Search Engine Ads are typically displayed along with the Google search results, they are text-only, and shown above the Google Maps section.  However, Google has reported that customer will trust a Google Map listing 53% more than an Ad, trust a website 71% more than an ad, and directory listing just 18% more than an ad.  However, the Search Engine Ads to have a place in a digital advertising strategy.  If you are looking for a "24 hour emergency plumber", you will come up first in the advertising section for someone that needs a solution RIGHT NOW.  If you're selling cars that have a longer sales cycle, Search Engine Advertising is likely not what you want to use.  This is also true in Bing, Yahoo, Duck Duck Go, or any other search engine.  You have to pay to play, and sometimes it isn't worth playing.  Search Engine Advertising also has higher buyer intent.  This implies that people are searching specifically for something with a set of phrases or keywords and if you position yourself correctly with the right keywords, you can get in front of those people looking to make a buying decision right now.  
  2. Social Media Advertising:  Facebook has become a platform that is saturated with advertising.  Every 3rd post is now a sponsored ad.  That means 33.33% of our news feed is made up of sponsored ads.  Often times, we are seeing ads that do not pertain to us, or the business is located across the country.  These are examples of poorly place advertising with poor targeting.  The beauty of Social Media Advertising is that you can get very specific with who you are targeting.  If you want to run an ad for women between the ages of 21-35 for a local spa that follow Kim Kardashian, and are of single marital status, you can do that.  Only people with those data sets will see that ad.  If you want to run a lawn care ad for people that just moved to your city within the last 30 days within 10 miles of your city-center, you can do that, only people that just moved to your city within the last 30 days that live within 10 miles of you will see that ad.  However, these ads can be very costly, and if the ads are not set up properly, the ad copy isn't written or designed properly, can be a major flop, and major expense.  
  3. Display Advertising:  Display Advertising come in the form of banner ads on popular websites.  Typically, these popular websites load ads in the margin of a news release, or above the information you're reading, etc.  For example, if you're reading the latest Green Bay Packers article, you'll see a series of ad from previous websites or previous companies you searched in Google.  As soon as you visit that website, everywhere you go on the internet will "display" those ads directly to you.  Let's say you looked at a pair of Nike's on Dick's Sporting Goods or Amazon - you'll continually see those display ads follow you around everywhere on the internet until the ad displays to you x-amount of times.  These are settings that are fixed when you set up the ad, they run until the ad is exhausted or until the prospective buyer decides to buy. 
  4. YouTube Advertising:  This is also considered Social Media Advertising, but I do personally feel that YouTube has become a platform for more than just watching cat videos.  YouTube has become a platform to watch news, how-to videos, shows, instructional videos, sports highlights, or podcasts and finding expert advice.  As YouTube videos generate more and more views, they qualify for advertising revenue-share opportunities  These videos can share your ads during ad-breaks to audiences that are watching videos related to your business.  

Digital Advertising Benefits

Digital Advertising is a great strategy to supercharge your marketing efforts.  Digital Advertising is a great way to increase the volume of website traffic, foot traffic into your store front, drive more phone calls, more booked appointments, or more reservations booked.  The effectiveness of your results will come down to how you set up your ads, the targeting, the keywords, and the audience you intend to show the advertisements.  While you can expect to pay $1,000 - $10,000 per month to generate the desired results, it is a great way to get quick results.  

Be Aware.  Digital Advertising is both costly, and short-term.  Your results won't last, they won't sustain, and they will fizzle out.  It is recommended to have a mechanism to collect customer information so you can continue to market to them through free mediums, versus continually running ads to them in their news feed on social media, or their google search results, or in their YouTube programming.  It is also recommended to tell your story, share your features, advantages and benefits with your digital advertising to ensure that your clicks, calls, and customers are at ease with their buying decision.
